Not So Typical Newborn Photo-Shoot
Jan and Chase Renegar with Tubby. James Clauss, photographer.
Have you seen the “new-born” photo shoot of Jan and Chase Renegar and their puppy, Jack Russell Terrier, Snuggles? We saw this and thought, “Well, this brings the humanization of pets to a whole new level!” But, we couldn’t help but smile and feel the love that the Renegars’ have for their fur-baby! We completely get it! This is what Jan and Chase said about their unique twist on the “newborn” photo session. “The session was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a visual take on how we humanize our pets…So, we decided to do some cliché newborn poses, but with a furry spin. Of course, no dogs were harmed in this shoot, but she did get a cozy nap.”
We then began to wonder just how many other people are guilty of similar behavior. So, we took a quick internet poll posing the simple question “Do you humanize your pets?” We were quickly inundated with responses. Here’s what some of our friends had to say……
“Well, We kiss a lot, but I always draw the line at second base.”
“Let’s see. Sophie has her own costumes for Halloween. Her own Ohio state jersey. A dress for Christmas. She has her own bed, blanket and stuffed animals lol.”
“One more… She has her own stocking hanging on the fireplace that Santa fills!”
“I take my dogs on car rides just for fun.”
I do (humanize) with my cats. First one would sit in his chair at table.”
“Oh yeah! Birthday cakes (puppy safe, of course!) and WRAPPED presents!”
“Absolutely. I talk to them. They have clothes. Diamond goes everywhere that I go unless prohibited. I tell them I love them often and birthdays are a biggie. She even got to participate in the mobile summer reading program.”
“We celebrate their birthdays with Frosty Paws. They sleep in our bed. We buy them healthy food. All 4 of them have Halloween costumes. They get Christmas gifts that they open on their own. We snuggle and cuddle and give lots of kisses. They go for rides and walks. They even get table scraps. They usually go on vacation with us to New Hampshire. They don’t know they are dogs …they are my furry children!!!”
From marthastewart.com:
“With our old dog we would wrap her birthday presents because her favorite game was unwrapping presents.”
“Sugar sleeps in the bed with us on a pillow with covers and gets to pick the spot-usually the prime spot! We bathe her with nice smelling shampoo and polish her nails.”
“Moxxi has a tutu and a fluffy coat for the winter because she gets cold. I would paint her nails if she sat still long enough. As much as hubby hates it, I let her and Gator sleep in the bed and I scold them like I would my children. They have time out spots lol! Oh, and they get presents during holidays and birthdays!”
“I almost bought a book for Polaire from the book fair one time because I thought she would like it! And I bought my daughter Morgan a fuchsia down vest one time … to match Polaire’s.”
“We take Christmas pictures with Santa. They had matching Christmas sweaters and have their own toy bin in the living room. They get Christmas and birthday presents. They have their own football jerseys. Beans got snow boots this winter, to help with the snow.”
“I hold the umbrella over them so they won’t get wet.”
“Sometimes I feed my dog with a fork….”
“Lately I realize that not only do I talk to Sofie, The French Bulldog, I respond back to myself for her!! Hahaha!! I’m a crazy loon!!”
“My Grace, 9 ½ year old yellow lab, has her own toy box with her name on it….She sleeps in my bed – has her own side and pillow.”
